Both Huang Guowu, a Chinese brush painter, and Duan Yuanwen, an oil painter, are outstanding artists in terms of their respective profession and expanded the language presentation of respective field with their own practice. Since the late 1980s, Huang Guowu has explored a series of Chinese brush paintings, reconstructed various presentation forms of traditional Chinese painting, and sought for possible modern combinations from the instinct properties of Chinese brush painting, finally showed his thoughts of indifference. While retaining a strong visual impact and texture, Duan Yuanwen's oil paintings abstractly inherit the traditional Chinese cultural elements, which goes beyond the direct molding of shapes and structures, purifies language and integrates with the cultural context of both east and west.
This exhibition is entitled "Sitting in Oblivion", which comes from Zhuangzi: "I have freed myself from my body. I have discarded my reasoning powers. And by thus getting rid of my body and mind, I have become One with the Infinite." Both artists showed good academic quality and solid skills in their early works. In recent years, however, the two artists have increasingly returned to the trend of drawing ontology. The exhibition displays a total of more than 200 pieces of their recent works. It is hoped that through this exhibition the creation state of both artists in recent years will be completely presented, while having a glimpse of the current trend of present Chinese brush paining and oil painting and the possibility of their integration by observing these two representative young artists.
