In the early 1930s, when the Chinese nation was in the middle of internal and external crises, the new woodcut movement began to emerge under the strong advocacy of Mr. Lu Xun, and with progressive young artists as its main force. With the continuous emergence of new painters and the establishment of printmaking groups, the new-styled woodcut movement swept across the country. Called by the mission of salvation and resistance to invasion, artists bravely threw themselves into the torrent of war, recording the glorious history with woodblocks and carving knives. Under the influence of the new-styled woodcut movement, woodcut art developed in full swing in Guangdong, becoming a distinctive popular art. Furthermore, a number of trailblazers and pioneers of the new art emerged. With a strong sense of national responsibility and an excellent vision of fine art, they added a colorful touch to the revolutionary art of Guangdong.
