Press Conference Held in Beijing for the 4th Guangzhou Triennial at Art China

[Abstract]  At 10 o’clock on Aug. 16, 2011, the 
press conference 
for the 
4th Guangzhou Triennial started at the Lakeview Hotel in Beijing. Zhu Di, Deputy 
Director-General of Department of Arts, Ministry of Culture, Luo Yiping, 
director of 
Guangdong Museum of Art and Vice Chairman of Guangdong Artists Association, 
Jiang Jiehong and Jonathan Watkins, curators for the 
Theme Exhibition of the triennial, and Zhang Xudong, curator for the 
“Forums in Motion” program of the triennial attended the conference that was 
hosted by Wang Jia, News Officer for the Guangzhou Triennial. The fourth edition 
of the exhibition, which is scheduled to open at Guangdong Museum of Art on 
Sept. 22, 2011, will be different from any international biennials or triennials 
ever held in any other regions in the world.

Theme Exhibition of the triennial, and Zhang Xudong, curator for the 
“Forums in Motion” program of the triennial attended as gusts the conference 
that was hosted by Wang Jia, News Officer for the Guangzhou 
Triennial.
    The conference 
began with a promotion video show for jounalists from 
various media agencies, and was followed by speeches by Zhu Di, Deputy 
Director-General of the Department of Arts, Ministry of Culture, and Liang 
Jiang, vice director of the National Art Museum of China. Then Luo Yiping gave a 
specific introduction of the basic frame and theme of the 4th 
Guangzhou Triennial, namely, to make enquiry into the art itself by asking 
self-searching questions. As the chief curator for the 
forum program, Zhang Xudong talked about the origin of the program, as well as 
the theme, time, and place of each station of the “Forums in Motion”. The two 
curators for the 
Theme Exhibition, Jiang Jiehong and Jonathan Watkins, gave their own 
understanding of the theme-“The unseen” from different perspectives. Zhang 
Kexin, planner for the Inauguration Exhibition, Wan Lin, Zuo Zhengyao, and Gao 
Ling, planners for the Project Exhibition, and Chen Lingzhen, head of the 
documentary section all spoke at the conference. 
    In the second part of the 
conference, the guests fielded questions from jounalists. 
    The fourth edition of the 
Guangzhou Triennial will be different from any international biennials or 
triennials ever held in any other regions in the world. It will unfold its three 
parts, that is, Inauguration Exhibition, Project Exhibition, and Theme 
Exhibition, along the progress of the reconstruction and expansion project of 
the Museum. The Triennial will be a three-year long ongoing exhibition which 
will begin with the Inauguration Exhibition and the Triennial Forum, to be 
followed by a study of cases and exploration that consist of 5 project 
exhibitions to be held inside and outside China, and will be ended by the Theme 
Exhibition and the Forum. 
The 4th Guangzhou Triennial is scheduled to open at Guangdong 
Museum of Art on Sept. 22, 2011,
