Sha Fei Library
Sha Fei (1912-1950), formerly known as Situ Chuan, was born in Guangzhou, with his ancestral home in Kaiping, Guangdong. Shafei was famous for taking a series of photos of Lu Xun when he visited the National Woodcuts Exhibition and held a symposium with wood cutters in 1936. He is not only one of the first professional photography journalists of the CPC's army, but also a key pioneer of press photography in the liberated area. He founded the "Jinchaji Pictorial", centering on which he trained and organized anti-Japanese soldier photographers. All photographs left by Sha Fei to us are precious historic documentations of historical significance and value of art appreciation. Ms. Wang Yan, Sha Fei's daughter, spent decades of years to seek and reproduce the scenario by then in each photo taking place, collected relevant books and materials about her father and the Chinese photography history of that time, and donated all of them to Guangdong Museum of Art in 2005. There are about 601 books at Sha Fei Library.
