向京:每个作品有自己的秘密 | 第三届GDMoA年度艺术家学术提名展·获提名艺术家
广东美术馆自主策划的“GDMoA 年度艺术家学术提名展”,作为馆内重点展览项目,始终聚焦当下中国及海外华人艺术家的革新思考与实验。本届学术提名展以小型个案研究的方式,提名并呈现五位入选艺术家的作品,深刻反映了当代艺术的演化与发展。
向京,以其独特的女性视角和深刻的艺术表达脱颖而出。她的作品以具象雕塑为载体,高度凝练地展现了对人类普遍处境、身份与心理状态的深刻洞察。本次推送将带你深入了解向京老师的艺术世界,探索她如何以雕塑为语言,讲述人类共同的情感与故事。
1968年生于北京,1995年毕业于中央美术学院雕塑系。现工作、生活于北京。
与其说向京是个“女性主义”艺术家,不如说她是个带有女性视角和女性意识的艺术家,但这都不是重点,她作品里透露出的不安感,是对于现代性下人性的迷雾和对于生存本身的不断确认——“内在性”是她所企图挖掘的生存真相。
在谈及“当代性与传统媒介”“女性身份与普遍人性”“观看与被看”“内在欲望”“具象艺术的抽象化”等学术命题时,向京及其创作是个不可回避的个案。
Born in 1968 in Beijing, China.
Xiang Jing graduated from the faculty of sculpture, Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1995. Xiang now works and lives in Beijing.
Rather than viewing Xiang Jing as a “feminist” artist, she is perhaps more accurately described as an artist with a woman’s viewpoint and perspective. Xiang’s artwork reveals a sense of insecurity through which the misty nature of the modern human character and life itself are accentuated and reified. Xiang Jing seeks after the existential truth of life through her continued investigation of “internality” of human nature in her work.
Xiang Jing and her work often appear in discourse on “contemporaneity vs. traditional medium”, “the female identity and the universal human nature”, “to observe and to be observed”, “internal desire”, “figurative art towards abstraction”, etc.

《异境——白银时代》是向京2011年创作的“异境”系列作品之一,它属于“这个世界会好吗?”系列,也是“异境”系列作品最后完成的一件,题名是向京对王小波的再次致敬。蛰伏安宁的大象带着某种永恒性,作品的意义是伴随着象的形象、题名隐喻,以及观展人的共谋一同构建的,向京写道:“我知道作品的意义只会在未来显现,那个创作者恐怕永远看不到的未来,所以一切的象要知道只是象而已,如同我们看到的风景,你并不了解它的本质是什么。它的存在就像一个漫长复杂的思考,同时也向观者用不同面貌敞开了不同的提问。”
Otherworld - The Silver Age is one of Xiang Jing's "Otherworld" series works created in 2011, which belongs to the series "Will Things Ever Get Better?", and is also the last piece completed. The title is Xiang Jing's tribute to Wang Xiaobo. The lying and peaceful elephant carries a certain timelessness, and the meaning of the work is constructed together with the image of the elephant, the metaphor of the title, and the complicity of the viewer.

《行舍》《行嗔》和《行形》是向京“S”系列中的三件以“蛇”的形态展现主题的作品,本次展出《行嗔》。完成“这个世界会好吗?”的子系列作品——“异境”系列后,向京反思到,在对于人性的隐喻中,“异境”系列作品的动物形态过于温情脉脉,以至于其中没有一件以猛禽的形式呈现的作品。在“S”系列中,这种遗憾是以凶险而暴虐的“蛇”的形态展现的。作品的题名和隐喻义提醒着人们回想起《论语·述而第七》中“用舍行藏”的表述:“用之则行,舍之则藏”。
After completing the "Otherworld" series, a sub-series of "Will the World Be Alright?", Xiang Jing reflected that the animal forms in the "Otherworld" series were too gentle in their metaphors for human nature and that none of them were in the form of raptors. In the "S" series, the remedy of this regret is expressed in the form of the menacing and ferocious "Snake". The titles and metaphors of the works are a reminder of the expression in The Analects, Shu Er, "When called to office, to undertake its duties; when not so called, to lie retired".
向京以强有力的女性生命的温度做雕塑。她将肢体语言升华为存在主义的诗学,以充满张力的姿态解构性别符码,让蜷缩的躯体迸发反抗重力的精神能量。她拒绝被标签定义,用凝固的永恒对抗时间的流逝,让力量在静默中轰鸣。
