20世纪上半叶，拉美艺术家根植于本土悠久的民族文化传统，以国家和社会的历史现实为题材，创作出大量具有鲜明的民族风格，强烈的视觉冲击力和精神震撼力的艺术作品。作为拉美艺术标志性人物的奥斯瓦尔多•瓜亚萨明，不仅是厄瓜多尔绘画巨匠，在世界画坛也享有盛誉。
拥有印第安人血统的瓜亚萨明，1919年出生于厄瓜多尔基多市的一个贫困家庭，以优异的成绩毕业于基多美术学院及基多中央大学建筑系。在继承深厚的民族文化传统的同时，瓜亚萨明不断吸收现代西方艺术的滋养；对于社会现实与民族矛盾，他有自己深切的体会和对独到的见解，在其不同时期的丰富创作中始终贯穿着一条鲜明的主线，就是以激情和意志为民族和生命呐喊。他用自己丰富的想象力与夸张的艺术表现手法刻画那些拟人化的深刻图像，抨击法西斯的残酷，帝国主义的侵略以及独裁政府的专制，表现捍卫民族尊严与人权的决心与意志。时至今日，他的作品仍然引发人们对于战争的反思。
本次展览由瓜亚萨明基金会策划，所有作品均为该基金会藏品，作品涵盖了瓜亚萨明早期表现主义作品，以及他最著名的三部曲《泪之路》、《愤怒的年代》和《温柔》系列。 除此之外，瓜亚萨明基金会还为此次巡展精心挑选了瓜亚萨明于1960年受邀访华期间创作的《中国风景速写》系列，在此之前，这些速写作品从未外借出过任何国内或国际的公开展览中，这也凸现了此次展览在中国举办的特殊意义。感谢厄瓜多尔共和国驻华使馆，驻广州总领事馆对本次展览的大力支持，在此我们谨表衷心的感谢，并希望双方今后在艺术交流方面继续合作。
Foreword
In the first part of the 20th century, by rooting in their age-old local cultures and traditions, and by employing their national and social history as themes, artists from Latin America created numerous art works with distinct national styles as well as intense visual and spiritual impacts. As one of their icons, Oswaldo Guayasamin is a master of painting both in Ecuador and within the world art circle.
Guayasamin was born in Quito, Ecuador, to a poor family of American Indian descent. With top grades, he graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Quito, and the Department of Architecture in the Central Ecuadorian University. He both inherited the profound traditional cultures of his nation, and absorbed the nourishment from the modern western art. He always gained his own insights, deep and keen, with regard to social reality and national conflict. A thread went throughout his abundant works in different periods, showing voices for his nation and the life of its people. With his rich imaginations and exaggerated techniques of artistic expression, he depicted a large number of anthropomorphic images, condemning the cruelty of Fascism, the invasion of Imperialism and the dictatorship of autocracies, presenting people’s will and determination to defend their national dignity and human rights. His works are still encouraging reflection on wars even to this day.
Guayasamin Foundation is the planner of this exhibition in which all works are their collections. The paintings consist of his early expressionistic works, and his best-known trilogy, the series of the Path of Tears, the Age of Anger and the Age of Tenderness. Besides, for this tour exhibition, the Foundation has elaborately selected Guayasamin’s series of Sketches of China’s Landscapes which was created in 1960 when he was invited to China. This series has never been exhibited in any domestic or international exhibitions before, highlighting the significance of this tour in China.
